Niacin pills

All vitamins are good for our bodies. Each individual vitamin plays its own unique roll in keeping us healthy and strong. Without each and every vitamin we cannot function at our best and our body can become ill. Some of the most important vitamins for our body include the B vitamins. There are several B vitamins and they all do their own special job inside our body.

Vitamin B3 is also known as Niacin or nicotinic acid. This is a water-soluble vitamin which prevents the vitamin from being stored in the body. Once the body uses the amount it needs, the remainder of the vitamin will leave the body through the urine. For this reason, it is necessary to consistently provide your body with Niacin so that it can get the proper amount every day.

A person who does not consume the proper dosages of niacin can suffer from a condition called pellagra. This is a very serious condition which can result in many organs failing in the body. Niacin is a crucial vitamin that keeps the body’s cells functioning properly. Without this vital nutrient the cells cannot do their job and organ failure can result in death. Symptoms of pellagra can vary since the symptoms stem from the failing organ. Depending on which organ starts to fail first will determine which symptoms will come out first. There are many organs in the body including the heart, brain, stomach, lungs, skin, liver, and kidneys. If the brain is affected first, the symptom may be dementia or mental impairment. If the skin is the first organ to fail there could be many skin ailments that surface. Digestive problems, kidney problems and heart disease are other symptoms that could arise among many others.

In order to get enough Niacin in your diet you should eat foods rich in the important nutrient. Foods such as meat, eggs, fish, yeast, milk, green vegetables and multi-grain cereals all contain niacin. B3 is also found in daily multi-vitamins, vitamins containing only niacin or B-Complex vitamins which contain all the B vitamins. It is important to take niacin with all the other B vitamins since they all work together in keeping the organs strong and healthy. Leaving out any of the B vitamins can cause serious health problems.

When it comes to taking a niacin supplement you need to make sure to take the recommended daily amount and not over-dose on the vitamin. Although niacin is necessary for maintaining good health of the body, consuming too much of the vitamin can also have negative effects. Large doses can cause skin rashes, ulcers of the stomach, liver damage and skin flushing. When taking a daily multi-vitamin, overdose is highly unlikely, unless the directions for dosing are not followed. The dosage in a multi-vitamin is usually sufficient in providing the body with the appropriate amount of niacin without causing an overdose in the body.

Niacin pills may be prescribed by a doctor for those who suffer from a deficiency in the vitamin or for those who have high cholesterol or other lipid disorders. If you are not sure about the proper amounts of niacin needed, make sure to discuss your concerns with your doctor. If you feel that you may be having symptoms of a niacin deficiency make sure to tell your doctor. A simple blood test may be performed to check the vitamin levels in your blood. For most people who consume a healthy, well balanced diet, niacin deficiency is rare. However, if you suffer from a condition that prevents you from consuming niacin containing foods, talk to your doctor about taking a supplement.
