Coconut water benefits
Coconuts, commonly defined as the fruit from the coconut palm tree with the botanical name of cocos nucifera, are usually found in the coastal regions of South and South East Asia, the Pacific Islands, South America and the islands of Hawaii and Florida amongst others. Although the botanical name suggests the name nut bearing, coconuts are popular for the water the fruit possess along with the thick flesh that is usually found in matured coconuts. Coconut milk is also very popular as a culinary aid, and is used abundantly in the preparation of foods especially in the South East Asian regions.
Coconut water provides numerous advantages and is known as the cleanest liquid after water as it contains healthy organic compounds such as potassium, magnesium, calcium etc that are known to be good for overall health. It is also does not contain a large amount of carbohydrates and sugar and is known to be 99% fat free. Other nutritional facts about coconut water are stated below:
- Coconut water is much more nourishing than milk as it contains less fat and zero cholesterol
- Coconut water is more healthy then orange juice as it contains higher calories whereas coconut water has fewer calories.
- Coconut water is more natural then refined baby milk as it contains the same lauric acid, present in a human mother’s milk.

- Coconut water is the same as human blood plasma, which characterizes it as a widespread donor as it makes blood transfusion easier. In emergency situations, coconut water has been used as intravenous hydration liquid when there was no standard IV fluid present. In World War II, hundreds of soldiers’ lives were saved in the Pacific, due to crisis transfusion of coconut water used instead of blood plasma.
