Preventing Thrush
There are some people that may be at higher risk of developing thrush than other. For instance, anyone that uses antibiotics or any other drug that decreases the strength of your immune system would be at higher risk of developing thrush. It is important to always have a strong immune system or else there is the possibility of fungus growth in your mouth starting.

There are a few other groups of people that are at higher risk of developing thrush as well. The condition is common in infants. It is also more frequent with people that smoke cigarettes. As well, people that use dentures are at a higher risk of developing thrush.

You may not be able to completely prevent the possibility of a thrush breakout as the triggers may be an essential part of your lifestyle. This is also a part of preventing the condition from returning in the future.

Symptoms of Thrush
You should do what you can to avoid getting thrush. However, if you are trying to diagnose your condition then you should look at the symptoms of thrush. If many of them match up then you may want to start treatment or get your doctor to provide a diagnosis as well.

Basically, thrush has the physical appearance of white lesions. They will affect various areas in your mouth such as your mouth, gums, and tongue. You will notice a bit of pain in the affected areas and there is also the possibility of your gums bleeding as a result of the condition. In a more severe case the thrush could spread. If this happens then it may travel to your esophagus where it would cause many problems. One major issue with thrush in the esophagus would be that it makes swallowing a lot more difficult than it should be.

How to Treat Thrush
One very important part of decreasing the severity of thrush symptoms would be maintaining a healthy oral hygiene. Without doing so you are only helping the condition to worsen and possibly spread to your esophagus.

You should also add yogurt to your diet. Yogurt can help kill the fungus and get rid of the condition quickly. Any type of yogurt would be beneficial but you only really need to use plain yogurt when treating thrush.

Another good addition to your diet to use when treating thrush would be green tea. You could use an alternative which has green tea extract but the results will be less noticeable. By drinking green tea you are not only killing the fungus but you are strengthening your immune system. This should be an addition to almost anyone’s diet even if they do not have oral thrush as it offers many immune system benefits. Also, you should drink green tea (hot) each day if the thrush has spread to your esophagus.

Two other good products to use when treating thrush would be apple cider vinegar and salt water. If you are going to use either of these methods for thrush treatment then look up the appropriate directions. You may also want to consider using a better toothpaste such as Arm and Hammer toothpaste. This particular toothpaste brand is very good as it includes two very effective ingredients – baking soda and peroxide. You should also use a mouthwash each day as it can help kill any bacteria that may be in your mouth.

If you are treating thrush in an infant then there should treat it in a different manner than you would for an adult. In many cases the condition will just go away naturally in an infant. However, you may want to soak a pacifier in virgin coconut oil and give it to your baby. This is a safe treatment method and it will help kill the infection in your child’s mouth. Yogurt is also a good item to use when treating thrush in a baby.

Final Thoughts
Oral thrush can be a painful condition which causes severe discomfort when eating, talking, and performing almost any basic function with your mouth. It can be even worse if it travels to your esophagus. It is important that you know how to prevent the condition, especially if you have already had a previous breakout.
