Panax ginseng extract

Panax ginseng extract is derived from the ginseng that grows in the regions of Northern China. This form of ginseng has been widely used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for thousands of years to treat a variety of ailments including diabetes, arthritis, neurological disorders, headache, fatigue, and depression. Most of the modern forms of Panax Ginseng found today will be found either in tonic or pill form. This is readily available as a nutritional supplement and can be purchased through health food stores, pharmacies and through your local holistic practitioner.

Panax Ginseng has been studied through clinical trials here in the United States to test its efficacy for several different diseases and disorders. Researchers have found that this supplement does have some excellent qualities as a holistic treatment for some problems. Research showed that this supplement was moderately effective when used to lower blood sugar levels in people who had adult onset diabetes. They did suggest that further research was needed before its absolute efficiency against this disease was documented.

Another excellent benefit that has been documented with Panax Ginseng is its ability to boost the immune system of the body. Ginseng has been known for many years to be effective in helping to reduce the effects of aging and reducing the ravages of other disorders that affect the human body that go along with aging and the disease process. Researchers have found that this supplement is very effective in boosting the immune system and will help to prevent it from succumbing to a variety of viral and bacterial processes. Clinical trials showed that test subjects who took the supplement were much less likely to succumb to certain upper respiratory viral illnesses such as the common cold, influenza and even pneumonia.

Ginseng has been used for centuries to improve the bodies circulation and neurological processes as well. Traditional Chinese Medicine uses this supplement to treat the ravages of neurological disorders such as chronic fatigue, headaches and even depression. However to date, we can find no clinical trials that support the use of this supplement for these disorders. Ginseng has been widely used to improve circulation and to improve the bodies ability to defend itself against the disease process as stated above. Improved circulation prevents certain cardiovascular disorders and may even prevent some forms of heart disease in the future.

There have been other limited clinical trials that showed that Panax Ginseng may well be benefical in improving neurological function such as improving memory and cognitive function and fine motor function. The study was limited and further research needs to be done but the supplement showed promise as most of the research subjects demonstrated improved abilities in these areas after taking the supplement on a regular basis for a period of time. Researchers are hopeful that this supplement may be benefical in the prevention of some neurological illnesses such as Alzheimer’s Disease in the future however further research needs to be done before this can be fully documented.

Panax Ginseng does have some side effects that do need to be noted here. It can increase the effects of certain medications such as anticoagulant drugs and hypoglycemic drug so anyone who is taking those types of drugs should not take this supplement unless they are under the constant supervision of a medical physician. Other side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, insomnia, headaches, and hypotension or low blood pressure. Due to these side effects anyone who has any type of chronic health problem should be evaluated by a medical professional prior to starting Panax Ginseng as a nutritional supplement to make sure that it is safe for them to do so.
