Natural acne treatments

Acne is the bane of almost every teenager’s existence. With hormones in full swing and eating habits leaving much to be desired, it is no wonder that so many teenagers suffer from Acne. But acne doesn’t discriminate and will often show up on adults in their twenties, thirties and even forties. No matter when it strikes, it can make you feel insecure and make you want to hide when your personality should most shine.

It doesn’t matter how old you are when it strikes, you will not want acne to remain on your face, arms or back for very long, and eventually you will begin trying one of many different natural acne treatments. There is a big difference between natural and non-natural ingredient based treatments.

Non-Natural Acne Treatments
Non-natural acne treatments are usually made up of chemicals that were put together in a lab. They may cause irritation and be too harsh for your skin. Of course, for some people the chemicals do not irritate the skin and they do get rid of acne. Your dermatologist will help you learn how to do a skin patch test before you start applying the chemical to your face. That will determine whether or not you will have a reaction and will prevent you from suffering a noticeable and painful skin irritation on your face.

Prescription medications: Prescription medications for acne may come in a topical form (like a cream) that work when applied directly to your acne and work from the outside in or pills that work from the inside of your system. These treatments contain strong chemicals like antibiotics and retinoids. Prescription medications must be prescribed by a dermatologist and may be covered by your insurance plan.

Over the counter harsh chemicals: Harsh chemicals are often sold over the counter (without a prescription). Some of the ingredients in these chemicals will be similar or the same as the chemicals in prescription medications but may be in a smaller dosage in order to allow them to be purchased without a prescription.

Natural Acne Treatments
Natural acne treatments are safe, contain only natural ingredients or methods and are often made up of simple processes and common sense. Used for many years, these methods of curing acne sometimes don’t work fast enough to keep people interested in them, so they instead turn to harsh chemicals for treatment.

Change your diet: There are many theories about the foods that may be responsible for causing acne. Ultimately, you should work with your dermatologist to discover which foods are causing the problem for your skin. Some suggestions are:

  • Red Meat
  • Milk
  • Sugar
  • Chocolate
  • Soda
  • Certain types of nuts
  • Coffee
  • Cheese

Omitting the right foods from your diet can help you to reduce or get rid of your acne altogether. The addition of multi vitamins can also assist you. Meeting with a nutritionist will help you learn the role that these foods play in your acne.

Herbs, minerals and vitamins: There are some natural herbs that are reported to be helpful in the fight against acne. Some of the recommended herbs, vitamins and minerals include:

  • Cod liver oil
  • Vitamin A, B, C, D and E
  • Zinc
  • Herbal supplements

Lifestyle changes: Some acne sufferers can get rid of their acne simply by changing their lifestyle a bit. Since acne is caused by oils trapped under the skin, sometimes just washing your face more often will reduce the amount of acne you have. Reducing the amount of sunscreen and moisturizer you wear can help reduce the amount of trapped oils under your skin and may also reduce your acne.
