You’ve seen the commercial. The cartoon stick figure man and woman, both with stick figure weight problems. The female stick figure talks about how her husband (the male stick figure) and she diet together and he loses weight and she doesn’t. His stick figure suddenly becomes more stick like, and hers stays the same- until she takes the miracle fat burner for women, SlimQuick. Then, she is drawn with a stick figure reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe, if she had been a stick figure. Unfortunately, real people are not the same as cartoon stick figures. Just because a commercial says something is going to work, doesn’t mean it will.
SlimQuick’s website states that it is specially formulated to help beat both the hormonal barriers and physiological barriers that only women face when trying to lose fat. One glance at the ingredients tells an interesting story:
Green tea leaf extract, yerba mate extract, cocoa bean extract: these are stimulants containing caffeine and are found in almost every single weight loss supplement on the market. SlimQuick says that they increase metabolism and fat burning. To an extent, this is true. The same could be said about drinking coffee all day.
Soy isoflavones, vitex agnus-castus: these two compounds are found in SlimQuick’s hormone balancing complex. Soy is often used in natural hormone replacement therapy supplements and vitex agnus-castus is sometimes used in the fight against pre menstrual syndrome. So, it is possible that these could help regulate hormones- but do you know that your hormones need regulating?
Their ingredients in the “women’s fat burning” complex are not listed, so it is impossible to know if they’ve used any ingredients that can actually help females burn fat. An interesting part of their ingredients is a set of ingredients to help relieve stress. This could be helpful, if it works, because stress can result in the accumulation of fat.
The reason for this is because when you are stressed, your body goes into fight or flight mode. Because your system thinks that you are about to expend a ton of energy either fighting or fleeing, you release cortisol. Cortisol stores fat around your stomach and results in you having a weight problem. The stress relieving compounds in SlimQuick are: beta-sisosterol, phophatidylserine, rhodiola rosea root extract, and theanine. Each of these roots, plants and extracts are believed to have positive effects on mood.
There doesn’t seem to be any information on clinical trials conducted on SlimQuick, so there is no definitive information about whether or not it works. The SlimQuick official website does not list or discuss any trials and does not state that the Food and Drug Administration has approved them. Most reviews found online on independent diet sites do not have a favorable opinion of SlimQuick’s effectiveness in helping women burn more fat.
The SlimQuick website has many positive reviews from satisfied users. Interestingly, the reviews are generally from women who had less than fifty pounds to lose. Is it possible that SlimQuick works for those with only a small amount of weight to lose? Again, without clinical trials it is hard to know without trying it.
If you decide to take a chance and try SlimQuick for yourself, make sure you discuss it with your primary care physician first. It is never a good idea to introduce a new weight loss or dietary supplement to your routine without discussing it with your doctor first. Many of the herbs and roots in these weight loss supplements can have an adverse affect on medications you are already taking. SlimQuick is also not a miracle cure and should be combined with diet and exercise.
