If you are someone who suffers from chronic dandruff problems, then you are probably forever searching for new and improved ways to try and keep the flakes away. While there are a lot of different dandruff remedies that can help you to curb the problems, you have to remember that these will not work for everyone. However, you can try different dandruff remedies until you find the one that will work best for your scalp and its particular condition. When you are looking into folk and home dandruff remedies then you will want to keep in mind that some of these rely on ingredients that can be sticky or a little unconventional, but remember to keep an open mind and not dismiss anything out of hand.
One of the oldest (and simplest) home dandruff remedies is the application of coconut oil to the scalp. You will want to take the coconut oil and apply it directly to your scalp, and then using your fingertips massage it into your head while trying at the same time to remove any dead skin that may be present. After you have done this for at least five minutes you will want to put your head under running hot water for fifteen minutes to make sure that all of the coconut oil has been removed from your hair and there is no oily residue. While it may be a little troublesome, the good news is that this dandruff remedy has the claim of being able to work for six months, which means that it is something you would only have to do twice a year to keep your scalp flake free and your hair healthy.
Another of the dandruff remedies that is a little on the interesting side is the mixture of one tablespoon Olive Oil and one teaspoon lime juice. After you mix these two things together you will want to put it onto your scalp as best you can, using your fingertips to massage it into your scalp. Then, take a towel and wind your hair up in it and sleep with the mixture applied overnight. The next morning you will want to shampoo your hair as normal. It may take a couple of applications for this dandruff remedy to work to full effect, but it is a home remedy that is used in multiple countries to good effect.
There are a lot of other dandruff remedies that you can try, but those listed above are two of the most common forms of home remedies that you can use. It may be hard to find the one that works for you, but a lot of the home remedies alternate between using an oil to help moisturize your scalp and get rid of the dandruff, while others rely on acidic compounds like vinegar and lemon or lime juice to pull the damaged skin away from your scalp. Just remember that if you decide to use an acidic based compound to try and repair your dandruff then you will also want to make sure that right after you use the treatment you will need to put some form of moisturizer on your scalp to keep the dandruff from reappearing.
If you are someone who does not want to take the time to check into home dandruff remedies, then you can find a number of prescription (and over the counter) dandruff products that are designed to help your scalp remain flake free and shiny. The only problem is that like the home dandruff remedies you will find that not everything works for each individual person. This means that you may have to purchase several different scalp medications and shampoos before you find the system that works best for you.
