Cellulite firming cream

Cellulite is basically an amassing of fat, toxins and fluid that are trapped in a web of elastin fibers and collagen deep inside the skin. It is an unwanted addition to the body (especially to the woman’s body), and is more prominent in certain areas of the body – particularly in the thighs. Cellulite can be surgically removed, but women now-a-days prefer to go for non-surgical methods by using firming creams that minimizes the appearance of cellulite.

Cellulite firming creams are increasing being used in the treatment of cellulite. Cellulite firming creams work by stimulating and smoothing the surface of the skin, thus making it look tighter and firmer. There are a number of chemical compounds found in such firming creams that can help the skin achieve the tightening effect, for example Palmitoyl Tetra peptide – 3 or neuropeptides. But deciding on the firming cream to choose depends on the result that is wanted. The desired effects can be classified into three categories –

Temporary skin tightening

If temporary skin tightening is what one wants to achieve, then it is best to look for firming creams that contain ingredients such as cornstarch, hydrolyzed wheat protein, hydrolyzed soy flour, etc. Starch is a natural polymer, and has similar effect on skin as on clothes. Synthesized polymers, such as acrylates, or acrylate cross polymers, also contain natural starch, and offer comparable results. Other ingredients that help temporary tightening are astringents such as alcohol, witch hazel, propylene glycol, and salicylic acid. Astringents remove oil and other soapy residues from skin, making it firmer and smoother. However, astringent-enriched firming lotions are generally not recommended for dry skin, as it may make the skin drier, or irritating to some extent. Anti-edema constituents in firming creams can also help to temporarily firm the skin. These reduce swelling and inflammation of skin cells, thus tightening the skin. Anti-edema ingredients may include chamomile, ivy, seaweed, rosemary and caffeine.

Temporary and restorative tightening
Good moisturizers can not only help to give temporary firming effect, but can also help in the long term firming of the skin. Moisturizers with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and other glycosaminoglycans, and diazolidinyl or imidazolidinyl urea are the best for firming effects. Moisturizers that contain natural moisturizing factors such as collagen, glycogen, amino acids, lecithin, glucose, polysaccharides, cholesterol, ceramides, etc, combined with emollients (silicone, lanoline, plant oils, etc), are also excellent for restorative tightening of the skin.

Restoration of skin
As the skin ages, it undergoes glycation. Glycation is a process in which the tissues are stiffened due to the binding of proteins caused by glucose links. Glycation causes sagging and wrinkling of the skin, resulting in an uneven skin tone, and robbing it of the youthful firmness of the skin. Palmitoyl Tetra peptide – 3 is a compound that has been proven to stop the progress of glycation, and even reverse the damage caused by it. It is a very effective anti-aging ingredient that can greatly reduce the cellulite and make the skin firmer.

Another ingredient, known as Palmitoyl Tetra peptide – 3, enhances the growth of collagen and new elastin, and thus helps to even the skin from within.

Neuropeptides, yet another restorative ingredient, are polypeptides that act as neurotransmitters, neuromodulators, neurohormones, and hormones. Neuropeptides do the combined work of Palmitoyl Tetra peptide – 3 and Palmitoyl Tetra peptide – 3, and moreover, help in fighting inflammation, and hydrating the skin.

All the three components described above are excellent anti-aging ingredients. They are very effective in fighting cellulite and thus should be kept in mind when looking for cellulite firming creams.

Good cellulite firming creams are easy to apply, and can be used daily. Most of these creams are dermatologist tested and recommended, and have little or no-side effects. Cellulite firming creams produced by a number of well known cosmetics manufacturers such as Estee Lauder, Clarins, Chanel, Biotherm, L’Oreal etc. But the most popular cream that has been extensively tested for effectiveness is Avon Cellusculpt. Users have claimed it to have significant result on cellulite areas such as the thighs, and have accepted it as a good-value firming cream.

Note that not all cellulite firming creams do as they say, and many lack substantial experimental proof of the product’s effectiveness. So it is important to look for the right ingredients in a cellulite firming cream, and conduct a background check on what former or current users have to say, before investing on it.
